In May 2016, DEF Promotions organised Clash of Champions, an event that demonstrated how far they have come since their humble beginnings five years prior with their partnership with Bob Arum and Top Rank Inc. The event was a resounding success, selling out 3000 seats, including a live broadcast of the fights to Japan.
This event featured boxers from 8 countries: Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Philippines, China, Thailand, and Macau.
The main bout featured Rex “The Wonder Kid” Tso (18-0-0) successfully defending his WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Flyweight title, and winning the World Boxing Organisation Asia Pacific Super Flyweight title against Young Gil Bae (27-5-1) in an epic four round technical knockout victory.
Additionally, DEF Promotions was once again able to feature a boxer that proceeded to win a world title, this time with Japanese Olympic Gold Medalist Ryota Murata (9-0-0). Extremely famous in Japan, Murata was subsequently able to defeat Hassan N’Dam to win the WBA World Middleweight title, and is currently recognised as the best Japanese Middleweight boxer, as well as a Top 20 Middleweight around the world.
Furthermore, Clash of Champions marked the debut fight of Hong Kong boxer Raymond Poon KaiChing.
